Over the last two weekends, Russ & I have been travelling to Lone Butte to visit my parents and to.... hunt. The first weekend, Russ got skunked and I shot my first EVER animal - a grouse. I felt kinda bad, but it tasted pretty good.
The second weekend, I decided not to hunt, cause I don't really like killing things. But Russ was very successful! He finally got a deer! His first big game. He had a Limited Entry Hunting tag and was able to shoot a doe. No worries, she didn't have a fawn with her. Russ was VERY happy. Smiles all around and meat in the freezer! My husband's a provider!
In the afternoon, just for kicks, Russ planted himself beside Hartwig Lake donning his camo gear and placed some decoys out on the water. He managed to get a Mallard Duck! A male one with pretty colours. We will be preserving the memory of this duck indefinitely, thanks to Ray Wiens.
So, this coming weekend, we will be going back up to Lone Butte again to learn how to butcher the deer from the Masters, ie: Mom & Dad Neufeld.
Venison, anyone??

Tell Russ that we need to have some BBQ going. How can you get that big a game and no ...you know, in sight??? Maybe when you guys come back from visiting the masters ha ha ha ha

We had a good time hunting this fall too... we didn't see any grouse though we were told there were lots at the camp. We did get 4 deer though (for the inlaws too) so our freezer is FULL.
